In 2008, the tourism industry in Guatemala reported 1.8 billion revenue, however, Guatemala still ranks 5th (in Latin America and the Caribbean) in high rates of poverty and inequality.
The statistics on child homelessness are also staggering in Guatemala. Without legitimate orphanages to help get children off the street, the fatherless are left to perpetuate toxic cycles.
